GEOLOGICAL SCIENCES AT BROWN UNIVERSITY
Rhode Island Living

Brown University is located in the historic "College Hill" section of Providence, RI. It blends a wonderful historic heritage with the cultural and entertainment opportunities of a major city. Substantial communities of African-Americans, Asians, Portuguese, and Hispanics add interesting diversity.
Although the state is only 20 miles wide and 45 miles long, Rhode Island rightly deserves to be called The Ocean State with over 200 miles of beautiful coastline and spectacular beaches and parks.
Providence, a great destination in its own right, also offers easy access to lovely hiking areas, is an hour by car from Boston or Cape Cod and 3 1/2 hours from New York City or the mountains of New Hampshire. A great starting point to explore New England!

OFF-CAMPUS HOUSING
Most graduate students share off-campus housing in the extensive residential area surrounding the University (click here for a PDF of an "East Side" street map). Incoming graduate students are encouraged to contact current students regarding possible house-mate openings. Any e-mail inquiry regarding possible openings can be forwarded to the Geological Science graduate students via the Department Coordinator, Ruth Crane.

Off-campus options for graduate student housing should also be explored with the Office of Rental Facilities at Brown University; their website includes information about the First-Year Graduate Housing Program, Brown-owned rental properties and the Off-Campus Housing Service (a listing service for local rental properties and neighborhoods around College Hill).

Additional information about locating off-campus housing for graduate students is available on the Graduate School website.

ON-CAMPUS HOUSING
Alternatively, there is an on-campus residential system; approximately 50 single rooms in Miller Hall are available to graduate students on a first-come, first serve basis.
