My research is driven by my interest in understanding the consequences of current and future climate change.  My approach is to interpret evidence for past climate conditions preserved in sediment archives and compare that with preexisting reconstructions to elucidate regional climate patterns during the Holocene.  I specialize in using geophysical and geochemical properties in sediment cores to infer past drought, flood, and hurricane occurrence, particularly in the tropical Pacific and subtropical United States.

I am part of the Earth Systems History research group in the Department of Geological Sciences at Brown University. I am affiliated with the Coastal Systems Group at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and the Environmental Change Initiative at Brown University.
