Setting up http Printers on Windows
From the Start button at the bottom left-hand corner of the Windows screen, go to Printers and Faxes. A window with all the currently defined printers as well as an Add Printers icon will appear.
Click on Add Printers. The Welcome window will appear.
Click on Next to bring up a window which will specify whether the printer is locally connected or on the network.
Choose A network printer and click on Next.
The above screen will ask for the network address of the printers. Fill in the URL address as
| http://computer.dept.brown.edu:631/printers/printqueue |
where computer is the name of the print server such as chemps or geops, dept is either chem or geo, and printqueue is the name of the print queue on the server. (Print queues for the Chemistry Dept. and for the Geological Sciences Dept.) Click on Next.
The Windows system then connects to the print queue on the server. A screen will appear from which you can choose the driver. The appropriate driver will be shown on the web pages above for the departments.
After the driver is selected, you will be returned to the previous screen. Click on Next again.
On the next screen you will asked if you want the new printer to be the default printer. Make your choice and then click on Next. The next screen is the Finish screen. Click on Next to exit the Add Printer program.
